Poudre Douce Almond Cake
10 min
Poudre Douce, or "sweet powder," is a delightfully simple mix of sugar and spice handed down from Medieval and Renaissance cookery. This almond cake is a perfect way to try it. The texture of this cake is fluffy, light, and buttery with chewy edges. You can enjoy the cake simply for the texture and spicing or garnish it with fresh stone fruit, berries, or cream.Want a gluten-free option? No problem! Use an all purpose gluten-free flour and the cake will transform from a fluffier cake into a blondie like consistency. Equally delicious.

We love quiche but it's a bit of a commitment, so for a quick and easy alternative to fill the quiche niche, we created this tart. It has all of the brunch flavors you crave, but instead of making a classic custard we folded together cooked quinoa, eggs and fresh ricotta salata for a luscious base. Easy! Combined with spring vegetables and a classic seasoning of Italian Herbs, this tart will be your new versatile brunch favorite. Caramelized leeks and sweet peppers were our first choice, but add in your favorite vegetables in any season.

Learn moreCafé De Olla
One of my favorite breakfast drinks is Mexican spiced coffee. This drink is traditionally made in a large clay pot where you simmer warm spices like true cinnamon, cloves, and star anise with coffee. It's name translates to ''pot coffee'' because the clay pot adds an earthy flavor to the drink and only gets better with each batch made. Traditionally, a raw cane sugar cone, piloncillo, is melted down, adding sweetness and caramel notes, similar to brown sugar. Once the water is sweetened and aromatic, my grandma would add a sinful amount of instant coffee and pour us a mug along with pan dulce (Sweet Mexican Bread). I grew up drinking the instant stuff for convenience but you can try both options in the recipe below. This beverage is also known as Café Mexicano and every family has their own version. I'm pretty loyal to the combination of true cinnamon, cloves and star anise. The trio makes the coffee floral, warm and sweet, after every sip you'll taste the best out of the malty coffee.
