Moroccan Mint
All around the Middle East and Northern Africa, a blend is made of Chinese gunpowder tea and peppermint. The brewed tea is then poured over small cones of unrefined sugar and the resulting beverage, Moroccan Mint, is sipped continuously during the hot afternoons. We enjoy Moroccan Mint iced as well.
Brewing Instructions: Steep 2-3 teaspoons per 8oz cup at 180°F for 2-3 minutes. (Too long of a steeping will result in bitterness!)

Tea 101
Moroccan Mint is a refreshing blend of Chinese gunpowder tea and peppermint. This tea is traditionally brewed and poured over small cones of unrefined sugar, creating a sweet and invigorating drink. It's particularly popular in the Middle East and Northern Africa, where it's enjoyed continuously during the hot afternoons. Whether served hot or iced, Moroccan Mint offers a cooling, slightly astringent taste, making it a perfect choice for any season.
We adore Moroccan Mint for its versatility and refreshing qualities. The combination of robust, gunpowder tea with the cool zing of peppermint creates a harmonious blend that's both soothing and revitalizing. On sweltering days, a glass of iced Moroccan Mint is our go-to for instant cooling. During cooler weather, a steaming cup provides a warm, comforting embrace. It's a staple in our pantry for its ability to please a crowd and its ease of preparation.
Traditionally, the head of the household or a guest of honor prepares the tea, carefully measuring the tea leaves, sugar, and mint. The tea is typically served three times, with each glass having a slightly different flavor profile. According to a popular Moroccan proverb, “The first glass is as gentle as life, the second as strong as love, the third as bitter as death.”
