History

Bulgogi, which translates to "fire meat," is a traditional Korean dish typically made with marinated beef that's grilled. This dish originated in the Goguryeo era, where early forms of the dish were known as 'maekjeok', with the meat cooked on skewers. It evolved during the Joseon Dynasty into 'neobiani', meaning 'thinly spread' meat, and was considered a delicacy among the wealthy nobility. The modern name and preparation of 'bulgogi' were popularized in the 20th century, making it a beloved staple in Korean cuisine both domestically and internationally.
