The fiery Piri Piri Blend has a history that spans continents, with its roots deeply embedded in the cuisines of Portugal, Brazil, and Africa. Originally from the Americas, the chile peppers used in traditional Piri Piri made their way to Africa and Europe via Portuguese explorers. In Africa, particularly Angola and Mozambique, which were Portuguese colonies, Piri Piri became synonymous with fiercely spicy sauces and seasonings used predominantly in chicken dishes. Each region has its own twist on the blend, but they all share an intense heat that is both beloved and feared.

In Portugal, the blend is less about the complexity of flavors and more about the chili's heat, often simply combining crushed chilies with oil, garlic, and sometimes wine vinegar.
