Memorable Father's Day Martinis

Memorable Father's Day Martinis

Some of our father figures are known for their no-nonsense attitudes while other times their wit is endless. Either way, we've got a martini for him! For practical, no-nonsense Dad, we polished a classic Gibson martini with savory house-made pickled pearl onions. For sweet & silly Dad, we added fancy to a French martini with vanilla bean-infused vodka. Either way, he'll appreciate the extra touches and the time together to enjoy them. We know a lot of well rounded men who will love both!Infusing your own vodka is an absolute breeze and it is a great way to capture all the flavor from a precious Madagascar 3 Count Vanilla Bean. Once you make it, you'll never go back. We tapped our favorite local spirits for this recipe using Oola Distillery vodka for a smooth, clean finish. The playful froth in this martini comes from the shaken pineapple juice. Enjoy! The Gibson martini is traditional and crisp. We pickled our own pearl onions using our house blend Pickling Spice. We also used Oola's Gin that has been cask aged in old whiskey barrels which gives it a golden hue. Adding a dash of the brine to the martini makes the gin go down even easier and really completes it. At the end, you'll be left with a tasty pickled pearl onion. Now go make your dad a drink and raise a glass!

Juniper Pelmeni

Juniper Pelmeni

What are Pelmeni? These little morsels are Russian dumplings, typically filled with simple ingredients and formed into a tortellini-like shape. Combinations of meat are the most common fillings, with mushrooms, cabbage, tomato and horseradish sometimes making an appearance. Pelmeni are typically shaped by hand, but we thought the twelve dollar pelmeni mold we bought was well worth the price. We opted for a pork and bison filling for these pelmeni, which we seasoned with Juniper for an intriguing counterpoint to the rich, savory flavors of the meat. Juniper is piney, sweet and fragrant - everything you want this time of year. We garnished our pelmenis with caramelized sweet onions, sour cream and fresh dill to complete the dish.

Grilled Polenta and Vegetables Provencal

Grilled Polenta and Vegetables Provencal

Summer = grill = good times. Especially when it comes to fresh vegetables. Throwing your vegetables onto a hot grill gives them that "je ne sais quoi" you can't get any other way. And when you add a touch of our Provencal Seasoned Salt, well, it's enough to make the most reluctant veggie eater sit up and take notice. The bright, lively flavors of this seasoning salt can turn the most mundane zucchini and eggplant into a French-inspired masterpiece. Now, those nice crispy veggies need somewhere to bed down, so why not throw a firm piece of creamy, luscious polenta, also spiked with Provencal Seasoned Salt, onto the grill with them? The Provencal Seasoned Salt, featuring a blend of fennel, garlic, chervil, tarragon and other spices carries beautifully throughout the dish. There you have it, a perfectly matched set. This easy method for cooking polenta comes to us from the folks at America's Test Kitchen. Adding a pinch of baking soda to the boiling water serves to soften the outside of the polenta grains, allowing them to quickly break down and release their starch, eliminating the need to stand over a hot stove, stirring constantly for 25 minutes. What's not to like about that?
