This chili powder has the most heat and complexity of any that we carry. Featuring chipotle, ancho, New Mexico and guajillo chiles, plus garlic, cumin and cayenne, Chipotle Chili Powder is a Southwestern-style masterpiece with a sultry, smoky bite.
Chipotle Chili Powder is a robust blend that brings the heat and smoky flavor of the Chipotle morita, a smoked jalapeño, to the forefront. This blend is meticulously crafted without salt, allowing each cook to season their dishes to taste. The mix includes Paprika, Chipotle, Smoked Paprika, Ancho, Cumin, Indian Cayenne, Guajillo, Garlic, and NM Chile, Onion, creating a complex and versatile profile perfect for a variety of dishes from chili to veggie burgers.
The term 'chipotle' derives from the Nahuatl word 'chilpoctli', meaning smoked chili. These peppers are traditionally jalapeños that are left to ripen on the plant until they turn bright red and then smoked over wood to achieve their distinct flavor. This process was developed as a means to preserve the peppers long before refrigeration was available. In different regions of Mexico, the type of wood used for smoking can vary, which subtly alters the flavor profile of the chipotle. In the United States, particularly in Southwestern cuisine, chipotle chili powder has become a staple for imparting a smoky heat to meats, stews, and even vegetarian dishes. Its versatility and robust flavor profile make it a favorite among chefs and home cooks alike.
Our Chipotle Chili Powder has a deep, smoky character that adds a complex heat to any dish. It’s not just about the spice; it’s about adding a layer of flavor that enhances everything from a hearty chili to a simple marinade.
Did you know that chipotle peppers were originally smoked as a preservation method? This technique allowed the peppers to be stored for a considerable period, making them a valuable ingredient in traditional Mexican cuisine. Today, while we might not need to smoke peppers for preservation, this process remains beloved for the incredible depth of flavor it adds to the chipotle.

Great outside of chili, fajitas, tacos -- good on roasted veggies esp cauliflower you can pack it on the florets and roast on high, add a kick to mayo or other condiments.
Store owner replied:
Love all these ideas. Chipotle Chili Powder on roasted cauliflower sounds unreal, and mixing it into mayo is such a power move. Thanks for sharing your flavor genius!
Store owner replied:

I have ordered all these herbs and blends in the past. I enjoy using them. That is why I continue to order them.

I put those in every mexican and meats dish I make - never enough
Store owner replied:
It's always great to have a spice blend in the cupboard that we can use to add a little extra flavor to all sorts of dishes. It just adds that little extra oomph that the dish may have been missing.
Store owner replied:
Love hearing how Chipotle Chili Powder makes its way into all your cooking. That smoky spice really does add a boost to flavor.
My husband lives for spicy. This chipolte chili powder has a great depth of flavor, is spicy and allows me to use less salt in recipes because the flavor is strong enough and interesting enough to carry the meal on it’s own. I use it for chili (of course) but also on fishsticks and chicken meals. Love it!!!
Store owner replied:
Ann, *this* is what cooking with spice is all about! That smoky chipotle heat, adding bold flavor so you don’t even need as much salt—pure genius. And fish sticks? That’s a move I didn’t see coming, but now I *have* to try it. Love how you’re making this blend work for everything! 🔥✨
This is a great blend, however, it's easily confused with the "chipotle chili flake" which is the plain, unblended chipotle that I intended to buy. I just thought this would be the finely ground version of it (not a blend). Don't make the same mistake as I did!
Store owner replied:
Ana, we totally get how that could be confusing! Chipotle Chili Powder is a blend, while the flake is the pure, unblended version—an easy mix-up. If you were hoping for the straight chipotle flake, we’d be happy to help make it right! Let us know at **spiceadvice@worldspice.com**, and we’ll get you sorted. 🌶️✨
Everything from World Spice is fantastic! Have been shopping here for years

My favorite chili powder! I love the smokey, rich flavor. Want mild add a pinch, want heat add more.
Store owner replied:
🌶️ We're so glad to hear that the Chipotle Chili Powder is a hit with your kids! Mild yet bold is the perfect combo for chili night. 🍲Enjoy!
This is a shelf staple of mine and I can't get enough! It's essential for black bean soup, chilies, quesadillas, and my favorite, roasted veggie nachos. Make a quick dip by adding it to sour cream or spice up some mayo for a sandwich of french fries.
Store owner replied:
The warm, smoky, and slightly sweet aroma is indeed something special. It's great to know you love it! Happy spicing!
The chipotle chili powder is another long-time favorite of mine. The slightly smokey flavor enhances the gentle heat of this spice blend. I have used it for years & it is a regular for my grilling season, especially steak & lamb chops. I also use both ancho & chipotle blends in my homemade Zinfandel chilli.
Store owner replied:
Sounds like you've mastered the art of spice blending! Taking notes from your expertise for my next grilling adventure. Keep spicing things up! 🌶️🔥
Smokey, medium spice If you routinely cook spicy, this is a nice mild chipotle that adds great flavor to any dish with just a dash or a pinch. If you don’t routinely cook spicy, a little goes a long way.
Great quality and makes a wonderful dip for fries I love the smoky flavor and I can make an awesome quick aioli. Just mix chipoltle, mayo and some garlic powder.
Since 1995 we've sourced and blended the finest flavors we can find. Nearly all of our spices are available whole or ground, and we grind in small batches shortly before shipping.
