Spice 101
Limón-Chile is a vibrant spice blend that brings together a piquant chili duo of Urfa and Marash, with a tart counterpoint of sumac and lime. Perfect for adding a powerful burst of flavor, Limón-Chile features surprising notes of citrus that balance the heat of the chilies. Whether it's sprinkled on fresh fruit or used to garnish a cocktail glass, this blend is a celebration in a pouch.
In regions like Latin America, the use of chiles and citrus has been a cornerstone in culinary practices, often used to enhance the freshness of dishes and provide a counterbalance to rich flavors. This blend is inspired by such traditions, where the vibrant flavors of chilis are harmoniously paired with the zest of citrus fruits, a technique that has been celebrated in many cultures for its ability to transform simple ingredients into vibrant dishes.
Across different cultures, the use of chiles and citrus varies but the underlying principle of creating depth and contrast in flavors remains the same. For instance, in Middle Eastern cuisine, sumac is used for its tangy and lemony flavor, which complements the heat of chiles, while in Mexican cuisine, lime and chiles are often paired to season fruits and vegetables, showcasing a global appreciation for this zesty combination.
Limón-Chile's robust chile flavors intertwined with sharp, tangy citrus notes make it a versatile favorite in our kitchen. It's fantastic for dishes like grilled corn or fruit salads. Every sprinkle brings a story of tradition and bold innovation to our plates.
Limon-Chile makes an excellent rim for cocktails, adding a zesty kick to drinks like margaritas and palomas.

This is an excellent mix. First time using these chili's in a chili-lime spice. I tested it in a simple broiled shrimp dish using butter, garlic and a little honey; add any other spice of choice to feature that spice. Its a fairly assertive chili flavor, not spicy so I added red pepper flake, and the citrus & sumac work so well with the shrimp. I think as a warm dinner or a cold app this will work for me for years.
Next will be in a chicken rub, and on pulled pork tacos.

We love how versatile our Limon-Chile is - great on seafood, chicken, fruit, veggies, cocktail rims. We can't get enough of it!
I was interested in this spice to use like you get topped on cucumbers and fruit in Mexico... and to see what else it might work with. It is close -- it's cucumber season right now so it is getting put on those, and today with a mid-day snack also put on some slices of nectarine. It's really good on the nectarine, actually!!! Surprisingly so. On the cukes it's fine, but they sort of need a spritz of real lime to really bring out the flavors.

Love that you're exploring Limón-Chile like it's used on fruit and cucumbers in Mexico. Nectarine slices sound like an unexpected win. Totally agree that a little lime spritz can really make it pop on cucumbers. Thanks for sharing your tasty experiments!
Limon-chile is a newer addition to my spice drawer but quickly becoming a favorite, especially for fish & chicken. The intense lime flavor brightens the chili. I appreciate the medium heat & the mingling of citrus flavors in lots of dishes & mixed with kosher salt to coat the rim of a margarita glass!
My spice drawer is filled with many World Spice options.
