This mild and sunny chile traditionally from the Aleppo region of Syria has a moderate heat that doesn't overpower its fruity flavor. Some dishes use only this chile as a seasoning, because the complexity can stand alone.
Aleppo pepper, a cherished spice from the Middle East, particularly the Aleppo region of Syria, is known for its mild heat and bright, fruity flavor. This single-ingredient spice is a standout for its ability to enhance without overpowering, making it a favorite in a variety of dishes.
Aleppo pepper, named after the city of Aleppo in Syria, has a rich history deeply rooted in Middle Eastern cuisine. This spice is celebrated not only for its culinary versatility but also for its unique flavor that has made it a staple in the region. This pepper offers a slow-building heat paired with a sweet and sour finish that is both complex and highly sought after. Historically, Aleppo pepper has been used in everything from meats to salads, demonstrating its ability to stand alone or blend beautifully with other ingredients.
Aleppo pepper has a gentle heat and subtle sweetness that emerges when it hits the palate. It’s a fantastic way to add depth to any dish without overwhelming other flavors. Aleppo pepper consistently brightens and complements the natural tastes of ingredients. It's particularly magical when paired with something unexpected like watermelon salad, where it contrasts with the fruit's sweetness.

This Aleppo Pepper made our pizza upgraded! We love how it's not too spicy, but we can still enjoy the heat. I started using Aleppo Pepper to all the Italian dishes I made, and my husband loves them so much!
Store owner replied:
That sounds fantastic, Rika! Isn’t it amazing how Aleppo Pepper brings just the right balance of warmth and flavor? Who knew a simple sprinkle could make such a difference in pizza and Italian dishes? 🤩
Just right heat. Not super spicy. Just right heat and a pleasant fruity character.
Store owner replied:
It's such a great chile to add when you just want a little kick, but also want something really flavorful. There are some delicious recipes on the website, too.

Aleppo pepper has such a delicious flavor, and it's not too spicy. We love adding it to pretty much anything to add a little pop of flavor.
Store owner replied:
Love that Aleppo Pepper is a regular in your kitchen. That little sweet, little spicy combo is hard to beat. Thanks for sharing. Always love hearing how you're cooking with it!
Store owner replied:
Berenice A., love that energy! 🙌
Aleppo really is that go-with-everything kind of spice—mild heat, rich flavor, and did you know it’s traditionally sun-dried and coarsely ground for that perfect texture? Total pantry essential.
This pepper is not particularly hot, but has enough of a kick to warm up a dish. Think of something close to ancho in terms of heat. I have grown accustomed to it, so I use it instead of hot pepper flakes whenever a recipe calls for it. It's less hot, but richer-tasting. Try putting a little in the butter or oil when you make sunny side up eggs for breakfast.
Store owner replied:
Love that swap! Aleppo Pepper brings such a rich, warm depth without overpowering heat. Adding it to butter or oil for sunny-side-up eggs? *Genius.* Definitely trying that! 🔥🍳✨
The very best products, and a very short time to arrive.

Thanks, Michael! Aleppo Pepper really does have that perfect balance—just enough heat to keep it interesting. Love the idea of sprinkling it on eggs or mixing it into a dip. Total flavor upgrade! 🌶️✨
This is what I’ve been needing this whole time for all the recipes I make!
Store owner replied:
Yuri! 🎉 Yes! —it's got that perfect balance of heat and fruity flavor. So glad it's your go-to! 🔥✨ Keep sprinkling it on everything!
THIS SPICE GIVES YOUR DISH AND SWEET AND MILD HEAT FLAVOR
Fruity is an accurate description of this pepper. The heat is mild but detectable. I used it for the first time in a Moroccan beet salad with o.j., olive oil, cumin, mint, and cilantro. The recipe did not call for pepper, but it needed something and I rarely go wrong by adding heat. Aleppo pepper was perfect! I would probably add this to a fruit salad of melon, mango, and strawberries.
Store owner replied:
Fruity with a hint of heat—that’s a combo we’re proud of! 🌶️ I’m thrilled to hear our Aleppo pepper added just the right touch to your Moroccan beet salad. It sounds like a vibrant mix of flavors!
Your idea of using it in a fruit salad with melon, mango, and strawberries sounds fantastic. Keep those creative recipes coming!
If you haven't tried this pepper then you're missing out! I use it quite often as a substitute for black pepper. Its has a lovely citrus component to it.

Thanks for the great review! We're happy to hear you love our Aleppo pepper. Its citrusy notes really do make it a fantastic substitute for black pepper. Enjoy!
All spices we have purchased from World Spice over the years have been fresh and full of rich flavor -- no comparison at all to spices which have sat on grocery store shelves in small bottles/tins, not to mention those purchased in bulk.
Our hands-down favorite is their amazing Aleppo pepper. We use it in all dishes in which we'd like a depth of medium spice. I was first introduced to it by a colleague in Istanbul in a hummus appetizer with hummus.
Recipe: Spread out a ~14 oz container of good quality hummus on an edged plate (or pie plate). Sauté olive oil with Aleppo peppers to taste and pine nuts over medium heat, stirring gently. Be careful that the pine nuts don't burn. They brown very quickly. Pour the hot, sizzling oil and nuts over the hummus and serve immediately with tortilla chips, sliced vegetables (cucumbers, red sweet peppers) or toasted pita bread pieces. It has become a HUGE favorite with all our friends and family.
The Marash and Biber peppers are also wonderful!
I always find delicious recipes on World Spice that I decide to try!
Nicely mild but is it useful? After buying many spices because every recipe calls for at least three from World Spice, I'm tired of discovering that I never have all the ingredients for more than one recipe. With flavors not keeping fresh after more than 6 months to a year, it's not practical to keep buying spice after spice. They'll never get used up.
No longer packed by order. Spice packaged in November. So amazing they prepared my order a month before I placed it! In other words, no more personal service, just people chucking prepackaged spices in a box. Meh. Can get that from Amazon.
One of my go-to spices I’m a repeat buyer of this lovely pepper. It’s not as hot or sharp as the typical hot pepper flake that you might get at the pizza place. It’s more earthy and well-rounded. I put it on everything, but my favorite is on cottage cheese with a bit of dried dill. Perfection!
Excellent! If you have not used Aleppo pepper in your cooking, you are missing out! We use it in hummus and on salads, but also on pizza and pasta for a bright, complex, and subtle heat.
Excellent! I have bought from WS for years, in-store (often followed by a stop in at Zig-Zag) and online and have appreciated the selection (ex: Aleppo and Urfa Bieber!) and freshness. Great to give gifts of spices too. Will always be a customer.
Since 1995 we've sourced and blended the finest flavors we can find. Nearly all of our spices are available whole or ground, and we grind in small batches shortly before shipping.
